Avocado Pit Natural Dye

from $21.99

Shepherd Textiles Avocado Pit Natural Dye is made from the ground seeds and skins of the common avocado, persea americana. Avocado pits contain a versatile orange pigment that is highly sensitive to PH. By adjusting the acidity of the dyebath, it is possible to get pleasant shades of peach, pink, and salmon. We produce this dye in our own studio, and it is available exclusively through our website. We start with perfectly ripe Haas avocados that we peel and clean. Next, we dehydrate the skins and seeds and grind them to a coarse powder. Use it at 100% weight-of-fabric for strong peaches and pinks. Please note that the dyestuffs in avocado can be harsh on animal fibers like wool and silk; rinse with soap immediately after dyeing to help prevent the fibers from feeling coarse.

Before using, please read our Guide to Dyeing With Avocado Seeds for color recipes, background, and safety information.

Made in the USA from imported Mexican avocados.
