100% Baby Camel Weaving Yarn (2/28)
A super-soft weaving yarn made from 100% baby camel. Baby camel fiber is gathered from the downy undercoat of Bactrian camels when they shed their coat each spring. The down fibers are extremely soft and warm, and they have a nice luster that complements their natural brown shade. However, camel down is a relatively short staple fiber (the individual fibers are only 1” to 2” long), so it requires specialized equipment to spin a very fine yarn out of pure camel. Our 100% Baby Camel Weaving Yarn (2/28) is made from pure, undyed baby camel, and is suitable as warp or weft for weaving very soft garments with a beautiful creamy latte hue. Approximately 40 wraps per inch (WPI). Recommended tabby sett of 30-36 ends per inch (EPI) depending on the desired feel of the finished cloth. Like many yarns made from short-staple fibers baby camel is spun with a high twist, but it will relax after wet-finishing and the true softness of the yarn will develop.
Available as a 10-gram bobbin (140 meters), a 100-gram spindle (1,400 meters), or a full kilogram on a cone (14,000 meters). Spun in New Zealand from Inner Mongolian camel fiber.
