Coreopsis Extract
Shepherd Textiles Coreopsis Extract is made from the petals of coreopsis tinctoria, a beautiful wildflower also known as Plains Coreopsis or Dyer’s Coreopsis that grows throughout the western United States, Canada, and Mexico. The flowers were used for centuries by indigenous peoples as both a medicine and a dye. It produces strong, clear pumpkin orange shades, especially on wool and silk, and is fast to light and alkalis. Our Coreopsis Extract is produced in France from locally grown flowers. Use it at 15%-20% WOF for a rich pumpkin orange; the exhaust bath can be used again for lighter orange shades. Certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and appropriate for use on textiles that will be labeled “organic.”
For background, color recipes, and important safety information, please check out our Guide to Dyeing with Coreopsis Extract before using.
