Guanaco Puro is a luxurious knitting yarn made from 100% wild guanaco fiber. Guanaco are the wild ancestors of llama, and their fleeces are known for their buttery-soft feel, rich color, and exceptional warmth. Guanaco Puro is made from the finest natural cinnamon-colored guanaco fleeces, and it will knit up into beautiful scarves, hats, and shawls. This yarn is spun for us in Argentina by TexAndes, a fiber mill that sources sustainably harvested guanaco fleeces directly from local communities in the southern Andes. This rare yarn is as fine as cashmere and just waiting to be made into a beautiful fiber art project.
Each skein weighs 50 grams and is 266 meters long (fingering weight, NM count 3/16). Recommended needle size is US 1-3. Please note that you will need a yarn swift and ball winder if you wish to convert the skein into a center-pull ball. Handwash in cold water; lay flat to dry. For more information about guanaco and vicuña fiber, please see the Frequently Asked Questions on our main vicuña page.
*Guanaco Puro is imported under permit by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and in accordance with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). Our guanaco is fully traceable to healthy wild populations listed in Appendix II of the treaty. Please note that all sales of guanaco products are final.
