Handspun Muga Silk Yarn
This one we didn’t spin ourselves. This gorgeous, golden handspun yarn is 100% pure muga silk. Muga silk comes from the cocoons of Antherea assamensis, the wild Assam silk moth native to northeastern India. Muga silk is the rarest of the wild silks, and for many centuries it was reserved for the royalty of the kingdoms surrounding the Bay of Bengal. This yarn was handspun by members of the rural cooperative in the state of Odisha who also provide us with our raw muga silk roving. This single-ply yarn has a natural golden glow and the wonderful luster of pure silk. It is amazingly soft and perfect for knitting or weft. Each skein weighs 100 grams. Available in two weights: Double Knit (DK) is approximately 250 meters per 100 gram skein, and Fingering is 400 meters per 100 gram skein.
