Persian Berry Extract

from $22.99

Shepherd Textiles Persian Berry Extract is made from the fruit of a buckthorn native to the Mediterranean region, rhamnus saxatilis. Ripe Persian Berries produce a dark, inky stain when the are crushed, and they have been used for centuries as both a fabric dye and as a pigment for painting and illustrating manuscripts. On animal fibers, Persian Berries give a rich, deep yellow that has a warmer hue than the yellows produced by flowers like weld and marigold. It is an excellent choice for protein fibers like wool and silk, and produces a strong yellow that will complement other colors well. Please note that Persian Berry Extract tends to give pale results on plant fibers like cotton, unless the cotton has been well-tanned and mordanted with tin.

Before using, please read our Guide to Dyeing with Persian Berry Extract for color recipes, background, and safety information.
