Possum & Cashmere Weaving Yarn (2/28)
A luxury blend designed for exquisite softness and warmth, our Possum & Cashmere Weaving Yarn (2/28) is made from 40% Perino® Brushtail Possum Fiber (16μm), 40% Baby Cashmere (15.2μm), and 20% Mulberry Silk (11μm).
Possum is a rare fiber harvested in New Zealand from the invasive Brushtail Possum (tricosurus vulpecula). Brushtail Possum fibers are extremely fine, averaging only 16μm in diameter and with a unique shape that tapers down to 1μm or 2μm at the tip. Each fiber is hollow and traps air very efficiently, making garments woven from our Possum & Cashmere Weaving Yarn 75% warmer than garments made from merino wool. For this yarn, the possum is blended with the finest baby cashmere to increase the loft and softness, and mulberry silk to make it stronger and more lustrous. This is a vibrant yarn that will produce extremely soft, warm, and elegant finished goods. Note that, like many short-staple fibers, possum has to be spun with a tight twist. However, the yarn will relax after wet-finishing and the true buttery softness will develop.
Available as a 10-gram sample wound onto a bobbin (140 meters), 100 grams wound onto a sectional warping spindle (1,400 meters), or a full kilogram on a cone (14,000 meters). Product of New Zealand. Perino® is a registered trademark of Woolyarns Limited.
