Rhatany Root Natural Dye
Shepherd Textiles Rhatany Root Natural Dye contains the chopped roots of krameria triandra, a shrub native to the high deserts of the Andes. The roots are rich in tannins and anthroquinone compounds, and they have a long history of use as both a medicine and a dye. Rhatany root can be made to produce a variety of rich coral, rust, and auburn shades by simply varying the PH of the dyebath. At neutral PH it will tend toward auburn, while acid will shift it toward yellow and alkalis will shift it toward red. Use at 100% weight-of-fabric (WOF) for medium shades, or 200% WOF for deeply saturated colors. An excellent choice for all natural fibers, including wool, silk, and well-mordanted cotton.
