Rhubarb Red Soap Dye
Shepherd Textiles Rhubarb Red is a plant-based natural dye developed specifically for use in cold process soap. Made from just three simple ingredients — Himalayan rhubarb root extract, alum, and washing soda — it will give your soap a deep maroon red shade. It’s also easy to use: just dissolve the powder in the lye water solution, and then blend into the oil base to produce a rich and even color. Use 3 grams of Rhubarb Red per pound of soap for maroon red. For detailed instructions, please check out our main soap page at shepherdtextiles.com/soap. This pigment is made in small batches, so please contact us if you need more than we have in stock.
Caution: For cold process soap only. Not for use in food or cosmetic products. Always wear a mask when working with dry pigments. Using more than the recommended amount of dye may result in dark-colored lather. Note that Rhubarb Red has a potent spicy scent similar to dried turmeric. The smell will fade as the soap cures, but may be noticeable in the lather.
